Located 10 kilometers directly south of the City of Red Deer, Junction 42 is now slated for commercial, industrial, and agri-business development. Junction 42 is a 290 acre site that is centrally located between Edmonton and Calgary. What originated as partnership with the AB Government has transformed into one of the most visible developments along the QEII. The easy access to the major highway north-south and a secondary highway east-west have caught the attention of transportation and logistics companies. The entire area of District 2&42 encompasses 11 quarter sections surrounding the Highway 2 and Highway 42 interchange. This District is intended to supplement the County’s industrial and commercial parks surrounding Red Deer, some of which are currently approaching full build out.
Plans & Maps
A Major Area Structure Plan (PDF), as well as a Local Area Structure Plan, Junction 42 LASP, have been adopted in an effort to encourage growth and stimulate development within the Junction 42 area.
Phase One development features a Travel Service Centre that includes the Province of Alberta and Red Deer County’s jointly funded ‘Partner Rest Area’, which is a freight truck and recreation vehicle parking rest stop. Phase One also includes a bulk fuel cardlock, gasoline and electric vehicle service station, and several fast service restaurants to serve the travelling public.
In 2021 there were over 500 vehicle visits daily to Junction 42. Long term visioning includes a mix of business campus style developments, a major distribution, commercial & service transport hub, alternative fuel sources, and Agritech businesses that will compliment neighboring agricultural based industries, surrounding this development.
Junction 42 is also serviced with high speed fiber optic internet cable lines, where the County has constructed an 11 km fiber optic backbone network using XG-PON technologies.
Additional serviced and shovel ready lots are currently available, providing opportunities for businesses to market to the 30,000+ vehicles passing this site every day.
This strategic location allows for businesses to connect to the world with easy access to major international air, rail, and ground transportation routes.

The Red Deer Airport, located just 9 kilometers from Junction 42, provides the opportunity to connect to international venues and offers charter and air cargo service. The Calgary and Edmonton International Airports are easily accessible within 1 hour as well.
